Harrah’s, a national chain of casino operations, has spent plenty of money refurbishing and updating its North Kansas City casino to expand its hotels, amenities and restaurants in recent years. The result is a more diverse experience than simply the multitiered riverboat casino’s gambling floors. A wide selection of restaurants surrounds the newly built Voodoo Lounge, which attracts up-and-coming musical and performance acts, as well as also-ran bands.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art – Kansas City perfect staycation spot
Already the linchpin of Kansas City’s arts and culture scene, the renowned Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art got a shot in the arm with the addition of the Bloch Building in 2007. The add-on to the already respected art museum added a vast collection of paintings, sculptures and photography exhibits, which reviewers from the New York Times and The New Yorker seemed surprised to find in Kansas City. In the main building is an impressive array of modern and classic art housed in an opulent stone structure atop a vast, green park dotted by huge shuttlecock sculptures one has to see to believe.
